Honest answer … we just ran out of time to deliver the quality that you, dear reader, demand of us.

5 Simple Steps To Keep Your Career Moving

1. Stay curious and don’t let yourself get stale.
2. 20 years doing the same thing every year, is not 20 years experience
3. Keep up to date, Keep reading, Keep learning
4. Have a plan. Many fall into roles without a plan, then complain the career is going nowhere.
5. Work hard. It’s not a guarantee for success but without it, you’re probably sunk.

… and no.6 … Mindset

We have a whole course at CTO Academy that looks into Mindset and it’s importance for you to shape the career and life you want.

This is about you knowing yourself first, before embarking on the right career.  If you don’t know yourself, you’re not going to make the right life decisions.

Alongside mindset, your success is often framed by your habits and this article looks at 8 habits stopping you from getting that promotion.

The one we see a lot of, is people underselling or undervaluing themselves.
What habits might be stopping you making the progress you deserve?
If you want to make some fundamental changes, start slowly, incrementally and track your progress via the plethora of habit tracking apps available in the market.

Know Your Emerging Technologies

Staying curious is such an important element of the tech leaders skill set.

But it can be challenging keeping abreast with change.  Many of you will be (in the words of my old dad), too busy making money, to make money i.e. with your head constantly down, you can deprive yourself of learning about what’s new and coming over the horizon.

How familiar are you with the differences between augmented and machine-driven decision making?
Or cloud enablement and cloud edge?
What will 5G mean to you and your business?

The Tech Trend Radar 2019 can help. Now in its fifth edition, it provides information about technology-driven trends that although with an angle towards the insurance market, covers many other sectors. It’s nicely designed and gives you headline information about a range of new tech.

Toxic Jobs, Time To Say Go

This weeks CTO Academy blog post looked at how to plan your departure from a toxic work environment.

Most culture comes down from the top and is embedded within the company.
Highly unlikely you can change it.
Energy goes where your focus goes.

You don’t want to burn your energy on getting frustrated about it. Time to bide your time, plan carefully and find the job you really want.

Book of the week : What’s Stopping You?

If you’re really struggling with job, career or fear of failure, then maybe it’s time to grab for this book ….

This personal witty and insightful book teaches us about the fears that drive failure and the self-awareness that can help us navigate it. The great point about this book is that it is both philosophical with regards the nature of fear and its impact on achievement, and practical. For those that may be paralysed by a fear of failure, it offers a way through” – Luke Johnson

Quote of the week

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. Don’t settle” – Steve Jobs
