Top 10 Things To Get Remote Working, Working

Lead article this week comes from New Zealand and our coach Owen Evans.

“A lot of us have spent 2020 adapting to the new normal and a lot of us have found remote working for the first time. I’ve been there for a few years and worked in organisations that have embraced remote first mentality before it was cool and/or required by a pandemic. Here are ten things my teams work on when working remotely …. “

The Art of Giving Feedback

The issue of how to give effective feedback came up in two coaching sessions this week so this is an article I wrote on a topic I’m still learning to master.

It’s such an important element of your role as a manager with a 2014 survey revealing that >50% of respondents wanted to receive feedback and when addressed properly, it was seen as effective in as much as 90% of cases in improving the performance

Stages of Startup Development or Seven Pillars of Success… Being an entrepreneur involves quite a lot of risks. And almost all of them are difficult to foresee or overcome. That’s why it comes as no surprise that eight out of ten young companies fail. One reason is they you don’t have a clear picture of where the startup is heading so here is a simple guide to start up phases and when is the right time to raise funds so as not to lose your company.

The Art of Raising Angel Funds on LinkedIn .. I hear you, and I agree: the words “LinkedIn” and “startup” don’t go particularly well together. I don’t really like LinkedIn myself either. 99% of the messages I get there are in a word, terrible!

The Open Source Strategy of Amazon Web Services … Did you know that Amazon leads more than 1,200 open source projects on GitHub? That number is confirmed during this interview with Matt Asay, the Head of Open Source Strategy and Marketing at Amazon Web Services (AWS) who says it represents “officially sponsored projects” — meaning they are open source projects that began inside of AWS, rather than being independent projects run by AWS employees.

Best Practices for Application Performance Testing … When done properly, software application performance testing determines if a system meets certain acceptable criteria for both responsiveness and robustness. Before you jump in to testing, though, there are some best practices to remember.

BI – Which Chart should I use?…Really good flow diagram going on here which starts with … “Do you have more than one variable?

Dark Mirror: Edward Snowden and the American Surveillance

This book looks behind the Snowden story and US surveillance more generally with Dark Mirror.

Edward Snowden touched off a global debate in 2013 when he gave journalists a vast and explosive archive of highly classified files revealing the extent of the American government’s access to our every communication.

That was only the beginning for this author as he tracked the reach and methodology of the U.S. surveillance state, interrogating Snowden’s own history and where myth and reality do not line up.

Gellman [is] a thorough, exacting reporter a marvellous narrator for this particular story, as he nimbly guides us through complex technical arcana and some stubborn ethical questions. Dark Mirror would be simply pleasurable to read if the story it told didn’t also happen to be frighteningly real.”

Why Do We Fall? : “Failure is inevitable in life … What matters is how you respond”

Most popular article in January 2021

If you’re a regular blogger then you’ll understand the uncertainty of sitting down to write an article and never being sure whether it will connect with your audience and be well read, or just wither away quietly in a dark corner of the blogosphere.

The article in January that gained the most views was about communication (a big topic within our courses and coaching) and “Communicating with non-technical customers
