November Action Plan
November Action Plan
We are rounding up what matters this week for tech leaders, with fast takes and practical moves you can make in November.
1) EU AI Act: no delays, hard dates
The European Commission reaffirmed that there’s no pause or grace period; model and system obligations are due on fixed dates. General-purpose model duties began Aug 2025, broader enforcement follows through 2026–2027.
Translation: Treat November as a readiness sprint, not watch-and-wait.
Clarity on timing: Parliament research and trackers summarize that the Act entered into force in 2024, key bans and obligations phasing in from Feb 2, 2025, with a general date of application Aug 2, 2026, and full effectiveness by 2027.
Try this in November (30-day plan):
- Inventory & map any AI systems in flight to risk categories; flag anything plausibly “high-risk” or using a foundation model.
- Stand up a lightweight AI register (purpose, data sources, human oversight, eval results).
- Draft provider/partner clauses for AI components you don’t fully control; you’ll need evidence trails.
- Nominate an internal owner for conformity assessment workstreams starting in Q1.
2) Kubernetes 1.32: what to care about
K8s now maintains active branches 1.32–1.34; if you’re sitting on older minors, your patch runway shrinks. The 1.32 stream includes build/toolchain moves (Go 1.23.x) and assorted feature/backport updates—worth scanning before November patch windows.
Action:
- Align your cluster upgrade plan and test critical controllers against the 1.32 changelog.
3) Blackwell (GB200) is the new baseline
Multiple indicators show GB200/Blackwell ramping globally (cloud SKUs launching; supply chain spinning up), with analysts projecting Blackwell at >80% of NVIDIA high-end GPU shipments in 2025.
Action:
- If AI infra is on your 2026 roadmap, start price/perf modeling against Blackwell-class instances and delivery timelines now.
4) Security one-pager: third-party blast radius
Fresh reminder that vendor risk ≠ theoretical: a large BPO provider disclosed a breach impacting 10.5M+ people, stemming from a 2024 incident but only now quantified. Use it as a table-top prompt: which vendors, if popped, expose your customer data? Do you know notification/contractual triggers?
Mini playbook (save this):
- Maintain a Top 10 vendor risk list (data sensitivity × integration depth).
- Require SSPM/IDP event exports to your SIEM for higher-risk providers.
- Pre-write customer comms templates (lawyer-approved) bound to thresholds (PII count, geography).
- Run a 48-hour drill: could you assemble affected records and notify within legal windows?
5) Engineering enablement: fine-tuning Copilot models
If your org uses GitHub Copilot Enterprise, note that fine-tuned, org-specific models have been available (limited public beta). Teams report better inline suggestions when models are tuned on proprietary codebases + conventions. If you paused earlier, revisit for language stacks where maintainability wins matter.
Leader’s Corner: November priorities checklist
- AI Act: approve an internal policy note + register template; nominate DRI.
- Platform: lock K8s upgrade windows (1.32+), regression plan ready.
- AI Infra: request updated quotes/availability for GB200 instances; model TCO vs. Hopper.
- Security: execute the 48-hour vendor breach drill with Legal + Comms; fix gaps.
- DevEx: pilot Copilot fine-tuning for a single critical repo/language first.

CTO Community Pulse: Highlights
#Ask the Community
Brian M. asked: “With ever-increasing costs/requirements for cybersecurity insurance and increasing security concerns, how are you approaching your SaSS and PaSS vendors to make sure they are keeping up on the security front, both from an insurance checklist and pragmatic real-world standpoint?"
Brian works for a small nonprofit, and their PII content has gone from in-house servers to multiple third parties at this point. What's the situation in your org?
#Jobs Market
- Craig S. has an urgent need for a contractor with strong ops/platform resilience skills. The org has a capability/process gap that urgently needs addressing by someone who is both hands-on but also a strategic thinker, and helps shape processes and roadmap.
- Morgan D. is hiring an Architect. Over the next five years, his org is undergoing a period of growth, with new products, new markets, and new headcount joining the team.
- Sig N. is looking for individuals with CEH, CEHSP, OSCP, and CPTS certifications, plus NIST Cybersecurity Framework Lead Implementer.
#Win of the Week
Kiran P. celebrates his 5th anniversary with CTO Academy. His journey began with the Foundations course, progressed through the Digital MBA, and culminated in an honorary fellow position.
“CTO Academy’s commitment to continuous improvement is evident in the founders' regular introduction of new modules, assessments, and motivational resources, all of which I find highly engaging. Recently, I completed three additional modules for the Digital MBA program, and my learning journey continues," says Kiran after mentioning that his wife also graduated from CTO Academy Digital MBA for Technology Leaders.
