CTO Academy Sustainability Policy

Last updated 3 August 2026

This policy explains the principles that guide how CTO Academy designs and delivers its programmes, uses technology, works with partners and makes operational decisions.

1. Purpose

CTO Academy is committed to operating in a responsible, sustainable and environmentally conscious manner. Our approach reflects our belief that technology and education should be delivered in ways that minimise environmental impact while supporting positive societal outcomes.

2. Our Operating Model

CTO Academy is a remote-first organisation, and this is central to our sustainability approach:

  • We do not operate physical office premises.
  • The majority of our services are designed and delivered online.
  • We do not require employees to commute to an office.
  • We limit travel wherever possible for employees and contractors.
  • We operate a paperless working environment.
This operating model helps reduce the environmental impact associated with office premises, commuting, business travel, physical venues and printed materials.

3. Low-Carbon Service Delivery

Our programmes are intentionally designed to minimise environmental impact:

  • Delivery is primarily through digital platforms, virtual classrooms and online learning environments.
  • We prioritise remote-first engagement, reducing the need for travel and physical venues.
  • Where in-person sessions are considered, they are limited, intentional and planned to balance learning impact with environmental cost.
  • Our delivery approach supports scalable learning without requiring a corresponding increase in physical resources.

This aligns with our broader commitment to lower-carbon, accessible and scalable learning.

4. Paperless and Digital-First Approach

We operate a paperless business:

  • Materials are created, distributed and consumed digitally.
  • Contracts, proposals and communications are managed electronically.
  • Learning content is hosted on secure digital platforms and remains available in accordance with the access period applicable to each customer, programme or membership.

5. Responsible Technology Use

We aim to ensure that our use of technology is aligned with sustainable principles by:

  • Using cloud-based infrastructure to support efficiency and scalability.
  • Designing learning experiences that are resource-efficient and accessible globally.
  • Reviewing our platforms and technology partners as our services evolve and seeking opportunities to improve environmental performance.

6. Partner and Supplier Expectations

Wherever reasonably possible, we endeavour to work with organisations that:

  • Demonstrate clear and transparent sustainability policies.
  • Show commitment to ethical, responsible and environmentally sound practices.
  • Align with our belief that technology should be a force for good.

7. Continuous Improvement

We recognise sustainability as an ongoing journey. CTO Academy will:

  • Regularly review and improve our practices.
  • Seek practical opportunities to further reduce environmental impact.
  • Consider client sustainability expectations when shaping our services and delivery methods.

8. Accountability

Responsibility for this policy sits with CTO Academy leadership. Sustainability considerations are embedded into:
